Most people will find the Chase Ultimate Rewards mall the easiest way to earn points. It’s an online shopping portal that lets you earn lots of extra points for shopping online with regular merchants.
Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall Overview

Access to the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall is given to cardholders of the Chase Freedom®, Chase Sapphire Preferred®, Chase Ink Bold® Business Charge Card and Chase Ink Plus® Business Card holders. The mall has various online merchants and you can earn bonus points for shopping with them.
I personally never buy anything physically in the store. If I find something at Macy’s, I go online through the Ultimate Rewards Mall and earn points. Merchants frequently have free shipping promotions so it’s an easier and more convenient way to have my purchases delivered… plus I get a ton of bonus points!
I order all my toiletries through drugstore.com and regularly shop at Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Bloomingdales, etc. On average, each merchant offers around 5 points per dollar. I value the points at about 2 cents each so just clicking through the portal gives me an equivalent of 10% off all my purchases.
A Look at How Many Points You Earn
It doesn’t take much to add up to a free ticket or a few nights at a luxurious hotel
Even if you only spend $1000 a month and earn 5-6 points per dollar, that’s already 60-70k points, which you can redeem for
- a round-trip ticket to Europe or Asia on Star Alliance (by converting the points to United Miles)
- three nights at Hyatt’s top hotels like the Park Hyatt Paris – Vendome costing upwards of $800 a night or the Grand Hyatt Kauai (by converting to Hyatt Gold Passport points)
- two round trip tickets to Hawaii from Los Angeles on American Airlines (by converting the points to British Airways Avios) and two one way tickets to San Francisco
Even if you don’t spend much online, the tens of thousands of points you do get will go a long way toward that free ticket if you combine it with other simple point building strategies you’ll get from The Miles Professor! if you’re already shopping, you may as well earn points.

Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall Frequently Asked Questions
Which cards will give me access to the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall?
The Chase Freedom Rewards card, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, the Chase Ink Bold and the Chase Ink Plus will all give access to the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall.
How long do Chase Ultimate Rewards bonus points take to post?
In my experience, I will get an email after about a week saying I have earned points. The actual points will not be available at that time and they will post to my statement at statement closing, which is around the 20th – 22nd of each month. The points will then show up on my monthly Chase Ultimate Rewards Statement for the card as Bonus points from Ultimate Rewards Mall.
Do we get points for buying gift cards at the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall?
In my experience, none of my regular merchants have credited me points for buying gift cards. This does not mean my experience applies to all merchants so it may be possible that some merchants will give credit. If you do want to buy gift cards, however, Staples.com does have a number of gift cards for merchants online and I have been able to get points shopping through Staples.com and buying gift cards.
Do we have to use a Chase card at the Ultimate Rewards Mall?
I have used a number of non-Chase cards to pay for my purchases through the Ultimate Rewards Mall and generally have had no issue with points posting. However, if making a particularly large purchase, you may want to use a Chase card just to be safe in case you need to send in your card receipt for a statement later. I did buy my new laptop with my Amex (not Chase) for an extra year of warranty and my points did post through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall.
Can we use merchant gift cards to pay at the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall and earn points?
I have used gift cards with a number of merchants and have not had issue receiving Chase Ultimate Rewards bonus points as a result. I have paid with gift cards when shopping at Sephora, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom and Macy’s.
Are there shopping portals that will give us better bonuses than the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall?
I generally just go through the Ultimate Rewards Mall because I find it too troublesome to check every time and the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall options tend to score near the top. I also find that points through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall are among the most reliable and quickest in terms of posting, making it easy to keep track of the earnings. Other malls I have gone through may often take 6-8 weeks to report the purchase. While I may go through another portal if making an unusually large purchase, I usually don’t in order to be more efficient. You can always check earnings with other portals at evreward or cashbackholic.
If we earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points, what are our options for then redeeming points?
You have three options:
1. Statement credit at 1 cent each
With the Chase Sapphire Preferred or one of the Chase Ink Cards:
2. Redeem towards travel at 1.25 cents each
3. Transfer to the following airline and hotel partners at a 1:1 ratio: United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, British Airways, Korean Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Hyatt Gold Passport, Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton, IHG Rewards Club, Amtrak.
Summary
- The Ultimate Rewards Mall gives you an average of 5 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar for shopping through most online merchants.
- You get access to the Ultimate Rewards Mall by holding the Chase Freedom, Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Ink Plus/Ink Bold cards.
- If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Ink cards, you can transfer Ultimate Rewards points to partners like United Airlines, British Airways and Hyatt Gold Passport points.

If we applied % off promo code from outside UR to purchases through UR, do you know we will get the UR Mall reward points?
For example, UR provides 15% off promo code, but there is 20% off promo code from somewhere else. If I use the 20% off promo code, do I still get the UR Mall reward points?
That’s no problem. As long as you go through the portal, you will earn points.
How do I get notified via email when UR points are added to my account? TIA!
You should automatically receive a confirmation email whenever the portal processes your points. They only get added when your statement posts at the end of the month so your “Bill is available” email serves as the notification, essentially.
Hi Miles Professor – I just stumbled across your blog via Saverocity, and have just begun reading your posts. I have a question, if you don’t mind. I have the Sapphire Preferred, and am thinking about canceling before the $95 one year fee kicks in. I’m wondering what I would be missing if I did so, and if this is a card worth holding on to. I know the UR points are really flexible, but if I use my citi AA for miles and my barclay arrival for everyday spend, except for the freedom for the category bonus, I sort of feel like I might have it covered, because AA is easy to use and we don’t travel more than 2x a year, usually only one main trip. I have used upromise cash back portal for 10+ years, and have recently tried TCB. I’m not sure if I spend $1000 online a month to make the UR portal worth it (we use amazon prime heavily, which won’t work with portals). Thoughts on what the threshold would be for this card? Also, re international travel, using arrival would be ok, because that card does not charge exchange fees, correct, so sapphire card would not be a lost benefit there, either? Sorry, I’ve confused myself and would appreciate your help.
Thank you so much!
Nicole
