The image is an advertisement for a rewards program, likely from a hotel chain. The top of the image has the text "DOUBLE YOUR HHONORS" in large, bold letters. Below this, there is a photograph of a couple sitting and smiling, with a cityscape in the background. The bottom part of the image contains text explaining the promotion, which offers double points or double miles on the next getaway. There are also two buttons labeled "DOUBLE YOUR POINTS" and "DOUBLE YOUR MILES" for users to choose their preferred reward. The overall design is clean and professional, aimed at encouraging customers to participate in the rewards program.

Quintuple Dip at Hilton This Quarter for 40 Points Per Dollar

If you’re spending any time at hotels in the next two months and have an Amex or Citibank co-branded Hilton HHonors card, you can pull off a cool quintuple dip to earn around HHonors 40 points/$ by maximizing the 2013 Q1 HHonors bonus.

DoubleHHonors1

  1. 10 base points/$ (Standard base earning): You earn 10 base points per dollar for every dollar spent at a Hilton.

  2. 5 points/$ (Hilton HHonors Double Dip earnings): Hilton lets you choose to earn airline miles with its partners or additional Hilton HHonors points on top of your base earnings. They call this double dipping. If you choose to earn Hilton HHonors points, you get 5 points per dollar extra.

  3. 10 bonus points/$ (Double your HHonors promotion): Hilton is running a promotion for the first quarter of 2013 that lets you choose to earn double points or double miles in the Double Your HHonors promotion. If you choose double points, you receive double your base points, which amounts to an extra 10 points per dollar.

  4. 10-12 points/$ (Spending on credit card): The Amex Hilton HHonors Surpass card gives 12 points per dollar spent at Hilton properties while the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve gives 10 points.

  5. 1.5-5 points/$ (Elite Status): HHonors Silver Elite members receive a 15% bonus on base points while HHonors Gold elite members receive a 25% bonus and HHonors Diamond Elite members receive a 50% bonus.

That’s 36.5 to 42 points per dollar spent at Hilton properties this quarter!!!

So how much do you have to spend for a high-end vacation?

Depends on which card you get/have.

I’ve included charts for how much you need to spend for a 4-8 night vacation at a Hilton Category 6 or 7 broken down into five conditions:

  1. You are signing up for the Amex Hilton HHonors Surpass card (60,000 signup bonus after spending $3000 on the card in 3 months)
  2. You are signing up for the Citi Hilton Reserve card (2 weekend nights signup bonus after spending $2500 on the card in 3 months)
  3. You already have the Hilton HHonors Surpass card (and won’t get the 50,000 signup bonus)
  4. You already have the Citi Hilton Reserve card (and won’t get the two night signup bonus)
  5. You have no card (and have to give up part 4 of my quintuple dip), but have at least Silver elite status

For simplicity, I assume that the spender has Gold status, which gives a good middle-ground estimate. You may have to recalculate based on your exact status, but the numbers won’t be completely different.

For each of Category 6 and 7, there are two tables. The first gives the number of points needed to earn to redeem an award for that many nights after you use any signup bonus that you get for signing up for the card. The second table gives how much spending you need to make with the points you get for the quintuple dip.

Category 7

Spending needed for number of nights at a Category 7 hotel after sign-up bonus (if applicable)
Spending needed for number of nights at a Category 7 hotel after sign-up bonus (if applicable)

You can see here that if you sign up for the Hilton Amex Surpass card, you need only spend $2151 at Hilton this quarter for 4 nights at a Category 7. If you already have the card, you need to spend $3670 at  Hiltons this quarter for 4 nights. Examples of the top Category 7 hotels include the Conrad Koh Samui in Thailand, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island or the London Hilton Park Lane that my parents are redeeming for 4 nights on their trip to London and the French Riviera with miles this summer.

Category 6

Spending needed for number of nights at a Category 6 hotel after sign-up bonus (if applicable)

Examples of Category 6 Hilton properties include the Conrad Centennial Singapore, which received an award for being chosen among Travel and Leisure’s 2013 Top 500 Hotels.
