Chase Freedom Up To 7500 Ultimate Rewards Points This Quarter: Gift Cards at Lowe’s

The Chase Freedom® card has quarterly rotating categories that offer a bonus of 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar up to $1500. That’s 7500 points if you maximize the promotion quarterly, or 30,000 points a year. This quarter, you can get all 7500 points by buying gift cards at Lowe’s for shopping with other merchants.

Chase Ultimate Rewards points are redeemable for cash back at 1 cent each (so 5 point per dollar = 5% cash back). Additionally, if you have the Chase Ink Bold® Business Charge Card or Chase Ink Plus® Business Card or Chase Sapphire Preferred® cards, you can transfer them to airline and hotel partners like United Airlines Mileage Plus, Hyatt Gold Passport, British Airways Executive Club, Southwest Rapid Rewards, among others.

Chase Freedom Categories Quarter 2

The new quarter starts Monday, April 1 and runs until June 30. Chase announced an additional category for the second quarter and now we have even more opportunities to earn Ultimate Rewards points. The additional category is all purchases at Lowe’s! The categories for the second quarter are: Restaurants, Movie Theaters and Lowe’s.

You do have to activate the bonus categories every quarter. It’s not automatic. Chase did a study and found that people think and use the card more if they are “actively involved” and control their bonus category activation every quarter!

Activation is already available by going here. You can start earning the 5 points per dollar at the bonus categories on Monday.

While I know many people have no problem spending $1500 at restaurants over the next 3 months (especially those of us living in New York where there is no shortage of fine culinary establishments with matching prices!), you can actually just buy gift cards to other merchants at Lowe’s.

Lowe’s has a ridiculous number of merchants it covers with gift cards, including Amazon, Sephora, Macy’s, Starbucks, OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, Staples, Sports Authority, to name a few. Unlike with Staples, you cannot order these online, unfortunately.

Don’t forget that you can then use these to shop online through the Ultimate Rewards Mall to pay for your merchandise and earn even more points!

Here is the list of gift cards you can find at Lowe’s. (Dan at DansDeals.com published the following list that I have included here for everyone’s convenience.)

  1. Hi. Do you know if you can use the Staples or OfficeMax Gift card to buy Visa gift cards at those respective stores? That would be a great way to liquidate the GCs.

    1. With OfficeMax and Staples gift cards, buying other gift cards is sort of a luck of the draw. It will technically work on the register, but I’ve heard reports of many cashiers now allowing it. Lots of unknown variables in this game, unfortunately :)

  2. So shopping through the rewards mall will give the 5x points that is currently offered plus another 5x for this quarters bonus? Thats pretty sweet if thats the case.
