Svetlana flies new United Boeing 757-200 BusinessFirst Premium Service LAX – JFK

Last weekend, Samba for Miles ended her trip to Rio de Janeiro and began her trip to the Cayman Islands. Except she came back from Rio de Janeiro in December 2012 and doesn’t plan to visit the Cayman Islands until February 2014. And, actually, last weekend, she was in NYC. But that’s the beauty of using United Airlines miles and taking advantage of their stopover and open-jaw flexible rules. The business class trip to New York was added onto an itinerary to South America and the trip back from New York was added on as a free one-way for a trip to the Cayman Islands in February 2014.

Even though she didn’t get to go to Rio or the Cayman Islands, the most exciting part of the trip was getting to fly United’s newly reconfigured premium service BusinessFirst cabin. This is an exclusive product offered only on the transcontinental route between New York and either Los Angeles or San Francisco.

When Svetlana booked the flight, United’s p.s. premium service planes had three cabins: Economy, Business and First. However, in the past few months, United started revamping the planes to match the international two-cabin configuration. United flies 15 aircrafts on these routes and, as of June 18, 4 out of 15 had completed the two cabin renovation:

Svetlana got very lucky and got one of the newly renovated planes! She was able to enjoy full 180-degree flat-bed seats in BusinessFirst replacing the previously angled lie-flat seats in the Business and First class cabins. Everyone knows lie-flat seats are great for sleeping, which is perfect on a red-eye flight to New York!

Here are some more highlights of what she got to experience on her trip… and luckily took some pictures for us!

  1. Think you meant 757-200 for the title since that is the only plane UA operates from LAX to JFK.

  2. ” Everyone knows lie-flat seats are great for sleeping, which is perfect on a red-eye flight to New York!”

Everyone except for Svetlana it seems, as she decided to grab a bottle of Red and party the night away!

  3. Nice blog you have going here! I have been a gold hilton honor member and enjoyed some of their perks: London Trafalgar Hilton or Venice Molino Stucky as well as free nights in US. But reading your blog I realized a significant loss I made by not signing for airline miles. From your blog I got interested in united airlines miles program. Need your advice what’s the best and the most beneficial way to start.
Looking forward to see your recommendations that I promise to follow step by step. Thanks!
