[Expired] One Week Left for 50,000 Sign-Up Bonus for Lufthansa Premier Miles & More World MasterCard

Update: This offer has now ended.

The increased Lufthansa Premier Miles & More World MasterCard offer for the 50,000 mile sign-up bonus will end one week from today on December 15. Right now, you receive 20,000 miles after your first purchase and an additional 30,000 miles after $5,000 within 90 days of account opening. The card has a $79 annual fee and no foreign transaction fees. The miles can be used to book award seats across the Star Alliance network.

How to Redeem Lufthansa Miles & More to Central and South America With No Fuel Surcharges

I signed up for the card last month and plan to use the miles for a trip to South America for 60,000 miles round-trip. The Lufthansa Miles & More program allows a stopover in each direction so I can hit three destinations in South America on a single award ticket. Since South America has plenty of Star Alliance airlines (United Airlines, US Airways, TACA, Avianca, TAM) that fly to South America without any fuel surcharges, this is a good use of miles and a great way to get in a few stopovers and destinations on a single ticket.

More Good Uses of Lufthansa Premier Miles & More Sign-Up Bonus

While the Lufthansa Miles & More program adds fuel surcharges to many routes so you need to be careful. However, there are a few good ways that I’ve covered to avoid fuel surcharges and get good value from the miles.

Svetlana flying LAX-JFK in a flat-bed. Lufthansa Miles & More charges only 17,000 miles each way for this flight.

Here are a few good sweet spots in the award chart.

  • 17,000 miles each way for United BusinessFirst flat-bed JFK-LAX or JFK-SFO. United Airlines will charge 25,000 miles each way for its BusinessFirst cabin with flat beds on these premium service transcontinental routes.
  • 35,000 miles round-trip for Economy class to the Caribbean or South America.
  • 60,000 miles round-trip for Economy class to South America.
  • 50,000 miles round trip for Economy class to Europe on US Airways. US Airways does not have any fuel surcharges and the sign-up bonus alone is enough for a round-trip to Europe on US Airways.

  1. Thanks for the reminder! I read your awesome post about using the miles for South America a few weeks ago and meant to sign up. I think the miles will be useful in 2014. I used your link…. keep up the good work!

  2. I was going to go for the US Airways offer before US Air and American Airlines merge with Barclays, but I think this is a better offer. It will almost pay for a full round-trip to South America, where my husband and I have been wanting to go.
