Analysis of the Hyatt “Endless Possibilities” Promotion Jan 15 – April 30,2014

Hyatt has come forth with a new promotion for 2014, which is an improvement on last year’s promotion. In addition to earning bonus points, there is also an option to earn free nights. The promotion runs from January 15, 2014 to April 30, 2014. Hyatt Gold Passport members are given a choice: For every 5 nights, you earn either a free night at any Category 1-4 hotel or bonus points.

Registration will open on January 9, 2014 in just a few days and must be done by March 31, 2014 at Hyatt Endless Possibilities Registration. 

Choose Free Nights

  • Earn a free night at any Category 1-4 Hyatt hotel worldwide after every five nights.
  • Enjoy 4 free nights after you stay a maximum of 20 nights.
  • Redeem your free nights through July 31, 2014. 

The free night awards can be used for standard rooms at hotels where point rates are available. Category 1-4 hotels will cost up to 15,000 points a night.

Choose Bonus Points

  • Stay 5 Nights, Earn +5,000 Points = 5,000 Total Points Earned
  • Stay 10 Nights, Earn +10,000 Points = 15,000 Total Points Earned
  • Stay 15 Nights, Earn +15,000 Points = 30,000 Total Points Earned
  • Stay 20 Nights, Earn +20,000 Points = 50,000 Total Points Earned.

Which to Choose?

There are two factors that will determine which option you want to choose for the promotion:

  • Your potential future travel plans for using Category 1-4 free nights.
  • The number of nights you plan to stay at Hyatt properties between January 15 and April 30.

While free nights at Category 1-4 can bring nice value, the main issue is they expire in July and they are not as flexible as just earning points, which can be used towards any property. As an example, I used my Hyatt points at the Park Hyatt Milan and Andaz Maui at Wailea this year. Category 1-4 free nights would not have been useful to me toward these properties. So unless you have a specific Category 1-4 stay in mind, you may just end up finding yourself scrambling to use the free nights next summer before they expire… a case for taking points instead.

For those staying all 20 nights, the maximum points earned will be 50,000 bonus points with the bonus point option. The free nights option can bring a value of up to 60,000 points, but as I mentioned, they expire in July and are not flexible. That said, I’d probably go with the 50,000 points unless, of course, you have a very specific use for the free night certificates in mind.

If you’re staying 5 nights or 10 nights, then the bonus point option will earn either 5,000 or 15,000 points. Earning two free nights at Category 1-4 hotels may be the better option in that case as each of those free nights can bring value of up to 15,000 points. Again, this is provided you can use those free nights before they expire. 

Which Nights are Eligible Towards the Promotion?

To participate successfully in the promotion, here are the rules for which nights will count:

  • Paid nights at Hyatt properties are eligible when the rate earns points (e.g. many third party bookings will not count).
  • Paid nights at MGM M Life properties are eligible if the payment is made directly to the property or the stay is booked online at hyatt.com or on the phone through Hyatt reservations.
  • Cash and Points rates, which will become available January 7, are eligible.
  • Award nights (booked fully with points or free night certificates) are not eligible.

  1. I have 3 rooms reserved for 5 nights each in PHX, 2 free award nights bc of Hyatt VISA in HKG, and 1 paid night in HKG. I should receive credit for 16 nights, correct?

    1. The 3 rooms, if booked for the same 5 nights, will only earn credit for 5. Even if you have multiple rooms booked, you will only earn credit for a single room in terms of promotion or stay credits. You do earn points for all 3 rooms, however – just not stay credits that count toward the promotion.

      1. I had a feeling that would be the case with the 3 rooms. Do you know if there is any way around it? Thank you for your help!

        1. I haven’t figured out how to officially get stay credit for multiple rooms to the same account. It may be worth to start individual accounts for each of the other two rooms so you at least receive the free night at Category 1-4 for each of the 5 nights… though this doesn’t help if you were going to go for the bonus points. I’ve been able to use certificates from others by adding my name to the room as a second guest.

  2. During the Marriott Mega Bonus last December, I booked 2 rooms for one night under separate reservation and they were counted as two nights and I did get the free night certificate, I am not sure if the same works with Hyatt but worth a try

  3. awesome! this is perfect for my upcoming visit to seoul. i plan to stay at the park hyatt seoul and do the cash + points option for 5 nights. i am doing a big asia trip and will probably use the free night at the park hyatt saigon.

    1. i hope it doesn’t take long for the free night to post. it says “allow 4-6 weeks for free nights and bonus points from nights outside the U.S” i hope it doesn’t really take that long.
