New Park Hyatt Vienna Expected Opening June 1 and Category Announced

Hyatt has been excellent at opening new hotels in exciting locations lately. Last year, I was very happy to stay at the new Andaz Maui at Wailea and it certainly did not disappoint. This year, the most anticipated hotel opening for me personally is the new Park Hyatt in Vienna. Rooms are not bookable yet, but the current opening date is set for June 1 to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Ringstrasse,  The hotel is set in 100-year-old building that once housed the Austrian Hungarian Monarchy Bank and will be set among’s Vienna’s new pedestrian-only new shopping district.

My parents and sister are planning a two week trip to Europe this summer through Rome, Prague and Vienna. I’ll be joining them in Vienna for my father’s birthday and we’re hoping to all spend a few nights at the new Park Hyatt… if it opens on time! That said, while everything seems to be on track, the highly anticipated 2013 opening of the Andaz Maui was delayed a few weeks so I’m hoping things go according to plan with the opening dates. We always have a contingency plan and there are plenty of hotels in Vienna, but we do have our hearts set on this one as it would be an amazing way to spend a few days in Vienna.

When it opens, the hotel will be a Category 6, meaning it will cost

  • 25,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points a night to redeem an award for an all points rate;
  • 12,500 Hyatt Gold Passport points + $150 for the Hyatt Points and Cash Rate.

That is a significant number of points, but I half expected it to open as a Category 7 alongside the Park Hyatt Milan, Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome and Park Hyatt Tokyo. We are going to redeem our two free night certificates from the Chase Hyatt credit card that we received last August.

Anyway, I am closely watching any developments with the Park Hyatt Vienna. After all, the opening is just two months away!

  1. Just FYI about a type above the screenshot. You typed 12,500 Hyatt Gold Passport points + $125, but the cash is actually $150 for the Cash + Points
