The image shows a luxurious rooftop pool area with lounge chairs, a canopy bed, and decorative lanterns. The pool is surrounded by a wooden deck, and there are plants and trees adding to the ambiance. The sky is clear, suggesting it is either early morning or late evening. In the foreground, there is a promotional banner for a limited-time offer from American Express, encouraging users to refer a friend to receive a special offer. The banner features two credit cards: the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card and the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card. There are two buttons below the cards labeled "REFER NOW," one for personal cards and one for business cards.

30,000 Starwood Card Increased Offer Available via Referral!

We got a few exciting emails today! I consider the Starwood Preferred Guest card to be one of the most valuable hotel credit cards out there and emails today announced the 30,000 Starwood Preferred Guest sign-up bonus. Typically, the sign-up bonus is 25,000 Starwood Preferred Guest points after spending $5,000 within 6 months. The increased offer is giving.

  • 10,000 bonus Starpoints after first purchase
  • additional 20,000 bonus Starpoints after spending $5,000 in the first six months.
  • $0 annual fee the first year, $65 thereafter.

We previously saw the increased sign-up bonus last summer for about a month and many of us have been waiting for it to come back. The points themselves are highly valuable. Last December, I spent 40,000 points for five nights at Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort in Thailand. Room rates were $650 a night and the stay would have cost me over $3000. Being that the hotel was a Category 4 and Starwood points offer the fifth night free, I got a great deal at 40,000 points. I also spent two nights at the Sheraton Rio Hotel & Resort over New Year’s 2012, when hotel rates were $800-$1000 a night (you may have guessed Rio is extremely popular for New Year’s). The other valuable aspect of Starwood Preferred Guest points is that they can transfer to 30 different airline partners. These include American Airlines, US Airways and British Airways, to name a few. Most airline partners will transfer at a 1:1 ratio and give a 5,000 mile bonus when you transfer 20,000 Starwood Preferred Guest points. So 20,000 Starwood points equals 25,000 airline miles.

Refer Friends for 5,000 Bonus Starwood Points

I received an email informing me that I can refer friends to the Starwood Preferred Guest card and I suspect most cardholders received the same email. For referring friends, you will receive 5,000 bonus Starpoints for each approved referral. Each friend will earn up to 30,000 bonus Starpoints: 10,000 Starpoints after their first purchase on the Card in addition to 20,000 Starpoints after they make $5,000 in purchases within their first 6 months of Card Membership. Referrals need to occur by June 30, 2014 and the friend must be approved by June 30, 2014 to be eligible for this limited time offer.

With that said, if you are interested in getting the Starwood Preferred Guest card, this is likely going to be the best offer all year. If you have a friend who already has the card, then it’s best to have them first refer you so the friend can earn an additional 5,000 points.

Of course, those who don’t already know someone who has the card, I am more than happy to refer you. Just comment below and I’ll send you an email or feel free to email me directly at milesprofessor at gmail and let me know if you’d like personal or business card. Of course, you should only give referral to me if you don’t already have a friend with the card who you’d like to have the additional 5,000 points.

30,000 Sign-Up Bonus Launching Publicly in Four Days

Update: The public offers have launched as well.

Natalya, who does not have a Starwood card yet, received an email inviting her to apply for the 30,000 bonus point increased offer four days early. I take this to indicate the the offer will be public at the beginning of next week for the month of June. According to her invitation, it will be expiring June 30, 2014.

This offer is no different from the referral offer.

  1. Thanks for sharing! Would love you to refer me after how much I’ve learned from your blog. I will use these points on one of those Caribbean hotels… maybe St. Martin as your parents’ trip really inspired me!

          1. All I can find at my SPG’s account reveals the following:

Your friend will receive the following offer for the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express : Get 10,000 Starpoints after your first purchase on the Card. † Earn an additional 15,000 Starpoints after you make $5,000 in eligible purchases on the Card in the first 6 months of Card Membership. †

  2. My wife and I just got this card this last week. My wife’s card arrived today. Any chance amex will match the new reward?

  3. Hi TMP!!! I also just received a targeted email from SPG with an invitation/unique link to apply for the SPG card with a 30,000 bonus so no referral needed. It says I can apply four days early so look out in your email for the link. I just got the email a few minutes ago.

  4. I’m going to apply for the Ink Plus tomorrow, before the 60,000 expires, last day… I do need to apply for the Starwood Business at the same time. (I already have the personal card). If you can send me the link, I would be grateful!
Very timely info, glad I’ve postponed the Ink application…
I had meant to apply for the Delta Business as well, do you think it’s worth it? would appreciate your input.
    Thanks a lot!

    1. Unfortunately, my business referral is not working and I don’t know why. Very sorry about that!

As far as Delta, Delta miles are notoriously difficult to find good value to redeem and they’re commonly referred to as “Skypesos”. I personally never got any of the Delta credit cards as I’m not a fan of their program – but depending on your situation, it could be worthwhile. In particular, if you live near one of their hubs – Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, NY – as you can get lucky with last minute awards and they do not charge a close-in booking fee.

  5. I just cancelled my buz starwood card recently, but still has personal card. Do you think they would let me apply for another buz card? Pls send link if you think so. Thx

  6. Would love to get an email referral for SPG personal card. Thanks for all your insight I love your blog it’s been very helpful

  7. I am more then willing to refer anyone for the SPG Personal Card (30k offer). Please feel free to email me if you need a referral. I’m looking for a business card referral as I only have the personal card as well.

  8. Can you please share the referral link? Been wanting to get this offer for sometime. Thanks

  9. Thanks for all your insight! Would love to get an email referral for SPG personal card.

  10. I got your referral link, Thank you! The fine print says: “If we identify you as currently having an American Express® Card account, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer.” I have a Amex Premier Gold, but never had SPG card, do you know if I am still eligible?

    1. You are eligible as long as you have not had the personal SPG card previously. Sometimes, however, the offer will not show up if you previously logged in on the browser into your American Express account. I’d suggest using a different browser or clearing cookies if that happens.

  11. I have the Personal and Business versions of the SPG cards. Would be willing to help with award booking or general questions you may have if using my referral link up to 10 people max. Email me if interested wishwell85 at hotmail.com
