Upcoming Hyatt Diamond Benefits at Park Hyatt Aviara

Svetlana has an upcoming stay at the Park Hyatt Aviara with her family. She is currently working on her Hyatt Diamond challenge and will be enjoying the Hyatt Diamond benefits during her stay. One thing I like to do is to find out the benefits ahead of time by emailing the hotel and they send me back an exact list of benefits. It’s just so much easier to plan that way. When getting the list, I look for two primary things: breakfast and spa. I have a soft spot for nice hotel breakfasts and, if spa access is complimentary, I’ll do some research on the facilities and plan it into my day. I also like to visit the Diamond club lounge for snacks, but Park Hyatts don’t have these.

For her family stay, Svetlana booked two nights using the My Elite Rate of $223 a night plus taxes. After taxes and resort fees, it will cost her $550. Of course, she’ll be paying for the stay by redeeming her Citi ThankYou points for Hyatt gift checks (10,000 points = $100). She has a big family going and immediately confirmed to a one bedroom Park Suite using one of four Diamond Suite upgrades she received with the Hyatt Diamond Challenge. This helped her save $400 (or 40,000 Citi ThankYou points) on her stay as she would have had to pay for a bigger room other wise.

  1. Sometimes the benefits of booking through FHR/VIrtuoso for the Hyatt properties can be better, especially if they’re a participating property to those hotel collections.

  2. Would you say that Hyatt Diamond is the best top hotel elite level of them all? I will most likely be Hilton Diamond at the end of this year but perhaps i should be with Hyatt instead.

    1. This program works wells for me because there are so many ways to redeem points – Citi points for Hyatt gift checks, Points + Cash, all points and that’s why I am drawn to it. While Hilton probably has the best mid-tier benefits (room upgrades and free breakfast with Gold status), Diamond status doesn’t offer a huge amount more on top of that. The confirmed suite upgrades ahead of time for Hyatt Diamond are a big plus for me here. That said, there are far more Hilton properties than Hyatt and, in general, Hyatt branded properties are on average more expensive. Something also to consider. One think you may want to try out is the Hyatt Diamond challenge and see how you like it – they will match your Hilton Diamond (or Hilton Gold) and, if you stay 12 nights within 60 days, you will get to keep the status for the next year.

      1. Thanks for your insight! I’ve looked at achieving top tier at one hotel chain.. and I guess I did not choose wisely… After I get my diamond with Hilton done, I will try for the Hyatt challenge so I can compare for myself, which is better but so far Hyatt sounds better!

  3. That is such a good idea. I never thought of emailing the hotel beforehand (duh!) to find out the diamond benefits. I alway find it inconvenient to ask at checkin because sometimes we are tired after a long journey and even if I do get the full run down, it’s easy to forget.

  4. We’ve been frequenting this property for years and they’re in a cost saving mode these days. A couple of things to notice:

    — The buffet breakfast is not valid for Sunday brunch anymore, so you need to finish breakfast before 1030 iirc
    — The free newspaper does not include NY Times, which they have, but charge for.
    — Internet is included in the resort fee for everyone and can be very slow at times. Turndown service is also available for all guest.
    — They’ve started buying cheap linen which are really itchy and not at all great quality. Some of the beds are very old and soft

    Positive

    — Private adult pool
    — Food is generally great
    — Illy Espresso machines are available in all suites
