Earning Lots of Cash Back with the ShopDiscover Portal

I do most of my shopping online for a few reasons. First, convenience. It’s much easier to get things delivered right to my door than to have to make time to go to the store and carry it home. Second, online shopping rewards and cash back. There are many credit card portals out there that are willing to give cash back or miles for clicking through them to your merchant. 5% here, 10% there – it all adds up pretty quickly. Even when I do find something in a store, I just go online and order it (provided there is free shipping) to get those extra rewards.

I use a few different portals such as Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall, Barclays Card and I recently gained access to the ShopDiscover portal when I signed up for the Discover It credit card. The cash back offerings on each credit card’s portal change on a regular basis so it’s nice to have access to a few. I will also typically compare offers through various portals by going to cashbackholic.com.

Access to the ShopDiscover portal does require holding one of the Discover cards. The Discover it card has rotating quarterly bonuses earning 5% cash back on everyday expenses such as gas stations, restaurants, holiday shopping, etc. Maximizing these categories earns an extra $75 a quarter or $300 a year. I can definitely use an extra $300 a year so I signed up. The card has no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees either so it’s a card I can keep around for a very long time.

Using the ShopDiscover Portal

To access the ShopDiscover portal, you just need to log into your Discover card account. You can then navigate to your merchant, click on it to visit the merchant website and shop online as usual.

The cash back will generally post within a few weeks and I’v found the Discover portal to be fairly reliable. Although you do need to have a Discover card to log in, I’ve had my cash back post even when I don’t use my Discover card.

I always try to earn miles and points whenever I can and whenever it’s convenient. Clicking through an additional portal and having cash back accumulate in my Discover account is very easy and I like seeing the rewards add up!

(In the interest of full disclosure, I do receive a referral commission for approved credit card applications through my website. I always include the best offer I can find regardless of commission. If you decide to use my links, thank you very much for your support!)

  1. How about groceries like eggs milk bread meat etc etc ? Do u shop those online too ? Im worried about the freshness when sitting in front of my door for hours before I get home.

    1. I actually order from FreshDirect – that’s a local NYC grocery delivery service. They let me choose a delivery time two hour window and I’ll usually pick a weekday evening when I know I’ll be home. I’ll use the Discover card for that when it has a grocery store rotating bonus, but otherwise I’ll use a different 5% cash back grocery store credit card.

      1. Which card are you using for grocery stores (you mentioned 5% cash back). Thank you!

  2. Have you ever received Cashback from the portal when not using a discover card to make a purchase?

  3. Discover portal is great, but only gives cashback, and not points. It’s a pity it stopped giving cashback for buying gift cards at Staples. But I do shop in Kohl’s (in conjunction with Kohl’s charge card), and other stores through it. Works pretty well so far.

    1. Points are just another form of currency so, when comparing portals, I compare it to how much I value each point. Would be nice to have more flexibility, but I never mind collecting cash back :)

  4. I recently opened the DiscoverIt card for access to its shopping portal. Just want to clarify, so the cash back still posts to the account even when using a different credit card? Because there is now verbiage in the offers stating you need to use the Discover card? As a result, I have been hesitant to use a different cc when going through the Discover portal.

  5. I used to rec cash back from the Discover portal when using other credit cards but it stopped for me around the end of January. I get emails confirming the cash back but it would never post to my account
